The ever-so-nice-and-knowledgeable Derek at EDT tells me that in addition to the inevitable suckitude of Windows 98 and the possibility that my HD has hardware issues, part of my woes may be due to using McAfee Online for my virus scanner. I guessed that. Of course, the nice people at McAfee have just automatically renewed my membership for another year and deducted my credit card for it -- if I'd known the extent to which their software was messing up my system I would have put a stop to the renewal before it was too late, but now I'm kicking myself that I didn't.
I am also peeved at NVIDIA, since it was my attempt to install their latest driver update this morning that finally caused my computer to roll over and play dead. I don't have time for this nonsense, especially with two kids needing my attention. So I did a fast backup to my alternate drive, burned my most essential files onto CD, and took it in to Derek this morning. I'm all about saving money and doing things myself as much as possible, but my time and my sanity are worth something, too.
