A Pocket Full of Murder

Update

After five days of gentian violet morning and night, taking grapefruit seed extract 3x a day and acidophilus 6x a day, I've had no thrush symptoms for a week now -- dare I hope it's finally beaten? In any case it's such a relief to be able to nurse baby Paul without pain -- all the more since he's going through a growth spurt and wants to nurse more often than usual.

He's making up for lost time, really, as the week I was ill he only gained a couple of ounces, and the following week put on five more ounces but still wasn't quite up to par with the weight gain as far as the midwives were concerned. This week, however, he gained a whopping ten and a half ounces, and you can really see his little face beginning to fill out. I'll post a pic soon, but first I need to find out where my husband put the camera...

As for me, I'm feeling like myself again and able to get things done around the house (as much as the baby's needs permit, anyway), which is wonderful considering that just a couple of weekends ago I really felt as though the world was ending -- or my world, at least. It's not an experience I would wish on anyone else, but I feel as though I learned some valuable lessons from it. For one thing, I certainly have a better understanding now of what it must be like to suffer from serious depression, and if that enables me to be more sympathetic and understanding of someone else in that situation, then the misery I went through will not have been in vain.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows. (2 Cor. 1:3-5)
