A Pocket Full of Murder

(no subject)

Well, I've been back in The Zone (or at least the neighbourhood -- I'm not counting or measuring that closely, just making sure that I'm eating the right kinds of things in roughly the right proportions) for a week now, and I've definitely noticed that my mental alertness and general energy has improved. I feel as though I'm sleeping better, too -- a deep, clear sort of sleep rather than the muddy and disturbed rest I had before. Plus, I made a second batch of muffins with a different recipe, and they turned out to be much more palatable than the first. I actually enjoy these ones. :)

After a week of one or the other or both kids being seriously ill, it's nice to see the two of them perky and chattering again. I expected that hubby and I would be sure to come down with the same bug, but we didn't -- or at least, not in the same way. I had a couple of days where I felt nauseated, and one where I was so completely drained of energy that I could barely breathe, but I never fell prey to the really nasty symptoms that the kids did.

Now that he's feeling better again, Nicholas has started talking in similes -- an interesting new development, seeing as he invents his own and they don't always quite follow the usual pattern. Today, for instance, he told me that I was "stubborn as a mouse". And this evening he told me solemnly:

"Mommy, you're as famous as a donut."
