A Pocket Full of Murder

(no subject)

As you might have guessed from the profound silence, it's been an extra-busy week around here. Why, I don't know, because it's not as though I've got a whole lot of things done. I still have e-mail piled up to the stratosphere, I haven't made any progress on any of my writing projects, I haven't even watched more TV this week than I usually do. I've read a bit (just finishing up the Miles Vorkosigan series for the second time), but only when I couldn't get anything else done. My one great triumph this week has been solving the problem we'd been having with sending e-mail by downloading and installing updated firmware for our DLink DI-604 router -- and I did that just this morning.

Where do the hours disappear to, anyway? Do they fall between the couch cushions, perhaps, and lie there in the soft darkness with a few stray raisins, assorted bits of lint, and the comb I misplaced three months ago? I almost wish -- then there might be a chance of finding them again, and actually getting some use out of them.

"A Free Agent"

I meant to post about this days ago, but it's been one of those weeks...

ALIAS was terrific last Sunday. I'm so glad to see that my treacherous fears about the show being dumbed down or turning into "The Syd & Vaughn Twoo Wuv 4 Eva" hour were misplaced.

Very much looking forward to the new ep in two weeks.

Casting Bujold (http://www.dendarii.com)

Doesn't that sound like the name of a Coen Brothers film? But I digress...

Right now a Miles Vorkosigan-centred mailing list I'm part of has been taken over by the Dreaded Casting Thread, and in the midst of blinking bemusedly over some very peculiar suggestions for actors who might play Miles, Ekaterin, Cordelia et al, I was suddenly smitten by realization.

Kevin Weisman (Marshall on ALIAS) would make a nearly perfect Miles. He's short, he's lean, he's dark-haired, he's hyper... all he'd have to do is drop the geekier aspects of the Marshall character and play up the fast-talking charm. Meanwhile, if you're looking for a tall, beautiful brunette with haunted eyes and a bit more substance than the average Hollywood stick-insect, Jennifer Garner wouldn't be at all bad as Ekaterin, either.

My fellow Bujold fans, I submit for your consideration this video clip from last week's episode of ALIAS. And for those with slower connections (though I would still really recommend the clip, it's worth it), have a look at this and this and this and this and this.

The defense rests.
